Five top tips for revision

Have you got exams or mocks coming up? Whether they are end-of-module tests, GCSE mocks or even A-level exams- try these five top revision tips.

Revision Tip 1/5
FLASHCARDS are a fantastic way to break up your revision of content-heavy subjects
up into bite-sized chunks. Once made you can use the cards to test yourself on your knowledge over and over again.

Revision Tip 2/5
Create MIND MAPS to help you learn key information. Mind maps make facts easier to remember thanks to the colours and images they contain, which are easier for the brain to retain than text. Stick them up around your house to help you overlearn key information.

Revision Tip 3/5.
Make MNEMONICS for keywords - for example you can use them when are learning a foreign-language vocabulary or new terminologies. Creating a mnemonic helps you remember words better.

Revision Tip 4/5
Have you tried the POMODORO Technique? It is a time management tool that helps learners to use their time more effectively. Complete 25 minutes of focused work, followed by a 5-minute break and then repeat. Developed in the 1980s by Francesco Cirillo, the technique is proven to increase the amount of work that you can get done in shorter amounts of time.

Revision Tip 5/5.
Make revision more fun by playing ‘JUST A MINUTE.’ Take the classic radio game and you can adapt it to almost any topic, text, or examination revision term. If you can explain a topic well, you have retrieved it from memory as well as likely consolidating it too!

Rules:

Talk for 1 minute on the given term/topic

Ensure no pauses or hesitations or you’ll lose a ‘life’

Remember three strikes and you’re out!
